Another in our series on mythic figures, using old pictures to discover something of their natures. We have had a great success with this book's predecessors - The Truth About Easter Rabbits ,... This description may be from another edition of this product.
A fun Santa book that young children will adore. The text is minimal and I thought, written in a rather grown-up style (for example: Mrs Claus is his `confidante', or he doesn't get `chagrined' when he meets children) so it's the illustrations that make the pages come alive. The illustrations range over seven decades and are arranged in page themes: Santa at home; delivering presents; living with elves for example, with most of them from the twenties and thirties and painted by anonymous artists though JC Leyendecker and Arthur Rackham are included but no Haddon Sundblom (Coke Santas) or Norman Rockwell which is rather disappointing. The book's production is simple and elegant, well printed on reasonable paper. My only criticism is that the credits run over two pages at the back, they could have easily fitted on one page. If you produced it every year when the festive season starts your young ones will enjoy it again and again. I loved this book! The vintage graphics are beautiful and really brought my child and I back to a different era.
