During the summer of 1974, long before cell phones, GPS, digital maps, and even widely used credit cards, two hippies and a dog set out on an adventure to hike more than a thousand miles of the Appalachian Trail. With a bit of research and very little physical training Deb, her dog Moonshine, and friend Sam hit the trail in May of 1974. Starting at Springer Mountain, Georgia and following the weather north, their plan was to walk home to Pennsylvania. This is her journal of that adventure. Transcribed from paper to digital in 2020 it reflects how three months in the woods affected her mentally, physically, and emotionally. These are the ramblings of Deb's 21-year-old mind as she spent days and nights in the woods, with a backpack, a dog, and a guy she hardly knew.
