I was quite surprised to see the negative reviews for this book. It is outstanding. Ryder completely transports the reader (and the listeners) into the role of a T.rex stalking prey during a day more than 65 million years ago. The poetic flow resonates with the excitement and the dreamy quality of the book's theme which begins with a young boy finding a fossil. Truly excellent. I can agree with that some of the words are longer and complex but exposure to such words are good for kids. The violent predation is of course two of the pages in the book and could be scary for younger children. I would say that age 5/6 and up would be good. Besides, unless one is a vegetarian it is time to face reality. Nevertheless, I am on a tangent. The book is wonderful and I am now hunting for other books by Joanne Ryder. I was completely taken by surprise as I read it this evening to my 5 year old son and 7 year old daughter. We were all transported and mesmerized by the words and the pictures. Highly recommended. I am going to get a used copy for our library as soon as I finish this review. Wonderful poetic book!!!! A starting point for poetry and biology!
