A little girl opens an umbrella on a snowy day--and the sun shines out from inside and flowers spring from the frozen ground! Jump ahead to spring, where the magical un-brella provides snow for snow angels and sledding across the green grass. Newcomer Scott Franson's accomplished clever visual storytelling artwork showcases imagination, exploration--and a little bit of magic.
Un-Brella is a delightful little picture book. Scott does a wonderful job telling the story without writing a single word. I have seen some of Scott's other work and personally own some of his illustrations. I would highly recommend this book for children and parents to enjoy together.

This book is delightfully whimsical, very clever story and it has the best artwork I've seen in a long time. I'm looking forward to the next book from this author/illustrator.

Scott Franson has created a picture book that will engage young readers and stand up to multiple readings ... and he has done it all with vibrant graphic artwork. We have "read" this wordless picture book over and over and "just-one-more-time-please" over again. I highly recommend UN-BRELLA for the pre-readers on your gift list.
A book that champions the other literacy (the visual kind)!

This is a richly detailed picture book that is really a visual anthem to those children who like to ask "what if . . . ?" The story progresses smartly (without any words, I might add) allowing imagination to tweak the weather so that a little girl can have her cake and eat it too. My kids loved our first look through so much that they enthusiastically asked if we could read it again. This request sparked a debate between them as to whether we were really "reading" the book or "looking" it. Either way we spent several more rounds enjoying the visual puns and finding new surprises hidden in the illustrations. Like any good children's surrealist picture book, Franson's "Un-Brella" is able to remake the rules and then follow them implicitly with surprisingly pleasant results. Hey, this ended up sounding like a bunch of marketing jargon. I must read that backs of too many books. Regardless, THIS particular book has provided some great entertainment for me and my family.
