From #1 New York Times bestselling author Nora Roberts, Under Currents is a novel about the power of family to harm--and to heal.
For both Zane and Darby, their small town roots hold a terrible secret. Now, decades later, they've come together to build a new life. But will the past set them free or pull them under? Inside a pristine home in North Carolina's Blue Ridge Mountains, Zane Bigelow has learned to keep secrets. Strangers see his parents as a successful surgeon and his stylish wife, proud of their children. Only Zane and his sister know the terrible truth. Dominated by his father's rages--and his mother's complicity--Zane fears for his and little Britt's lives. Still he maintains the insidious lie that all is fine, while scribbling his real thoughts in a secret journal he must carefully hide away. Now, as a grown man struggling to build a new life, Zane will find that while his past may always shadow him, it will also show him that love and goodness can triumph--and give him strength to draw on when he once again must stand up and defend himself and the woman he loves.Wow what a story. The tale of overcoming parental abuse hits you at the very core of the heart. From only the negatives that Zane and Britt encountered growing up and all the abuse, they encountered, them sticking together just to survive was a real page turner. "THE DOCTOR" may have been wonderful, and a human first, as then a parent, he certainly lacked on all bases. Thank goodness Zane and Britt were able to be rescued...

This is a page turner and read the whole book in 3 days. It highlights some childhood abuse but showed the reader that anyone can come through trauma and still be successful, loving and caring adult. Do yourself a favor and grab this book.

I have read nearly every one of Nora's trilogies and her standalones, but i must have re and reread Undercurrents 10 times. I also fell in love with Darby and needed to know how her story turned out as well. I think I reread it because...

First, Spoiler and Warning: This book has domestic abuse in it. The opening stories are pretty brutal, but are done well enough that you feel the fear and the pain (and disgust) but I didn't find their descriptions grossly graphic. Graphic enough to set the scene; the goal isn't to turn your stomach. What I liked/loved about this book is the story goes beyond the abuse. It touched the victims' lives and those around them...
