Appearances can be...deadly And this was a lesson Ash Kelly, explosives expert for ONYXX, should have learned long ago. For though he's more than lived down his past--as son of the world's most renowned drug lord--he once again has to pretend to be in the business. All in a day's work. But he knows what his story is. Which leaves him with the question of Jazmin Grant. Who is this beautiful Frenchwoman, and who does she work for? And why, despite every indication that she works for the Chameleon, do sparks fly every time they're together? Well, he is an explosives expert, after all....
Before he was Ash Kelly, special agent for a covert agency known as ONYXX, Ash was Marco Toriago, the son of one of the most feared narcobarons of all time. Even though he didn't agree with his dad's drug empire, Toriago still wasn't a nice person. After his father was killed and everyone thought he was too, Marco decided to stay dead and become someone else. Ash Kelly became a government agent on the side of good. But when he was accused of killing a French agent while trying to get ONYXX's archnemesis, the Chameleon, Ash had no choice but to go to work with them and resurrect Marco Toriago. Unfortunately, there's a beautiful young woman already within the enemy camp, and Ash doesn't know if she's going to get him killed or prove too distracting to the mission. However it goes, he knows the lady is desperately following her own agenda. Wendy Rosnau is the author of ten novels of romantic suspense. There are three others in the ONYXX series, called the Spy Games series, PERFECT ASSASSIN, THE SPY WORE RED, and THE SPY WITH THE SILVER LINING. The author was new to me, but the book looked intriguing, so I picked it up. Rosnau has got mad skills when it comes to pacing and immediate character interaction. Within the space of a few pages, I was drawn into the story, introduced to a large plot and plenty of characters, and did it all without once getting confused or breaking a sweat. A couple hours later, I was done and in a happy place. This was one of those pleasant reading experiences you can finish at a (long) sitting but seldom find, but now I'm determined to find the rest of her books and find out more about ONYXX and those agents. UNDERCOVER NIGHTINGALE is a blistering fast read, chockful of character and action. Fans of Nora Roberts and Debra Webb will love this book and the writing, as well as the hero and heroine. Reading the first few pages is like lighting the fuse to a powderkeg: you can't stop it once it starts, and don't do it unless you're prepared to be blown away.
