Book Overview

This book was written in answer to a very important question. That question came from a group of inner-city young people who had an interest in their African American heritage, history, religion and culture. They had begun our discussion with a question about the role Christianity had played in slavery, which led to my writing the book The Trial on the Curse of Ham. But for their second question, I had no ready answer: Why are most blacks in America Democrats? Although I had opinions and suppositions, those were not enough to satisfy these thirsty minds, and I could see I would have to dig further to find the real answer. Not long after this, I received a call from my publisher. He asked if I would consider writing a book that would address the spiritual, political, cultural, and economic issues affecting African Americans? After much prayer and consultation with colleagues, I decided to take on the project. That decision led to some startling revelations regarding the relationships between Blacks and Democrats. Those revelations are documented in this book. Why are most blacks in America Democrats? You will have to answer that question yourself. After reading this book, you will understand that: For 150 years Blacks were victims of terrorist attacks by the Democrats and their Klan supporters, including lynching, beating, rapes, and mutilationsOn the issue of slavery, the Democrats literally gave their lives to expand it, the Republicans gave theirs lives to ban it.Many believed the Democrats had a change of heart and fell in love with Blacks. To the contrary, history reveals the Democrats didn't fall in love with Black folks, the fell in love with the black voteknowing this would be their ticket into the White House. In my research, which covered the period from 1832 to 2002, I found two familiar strains running through the cultural development of the American Black: the positive and powerful role of Christianity and the little known and debilitating role of the Democrats -- from slavery through the Clinton Administration. There is also a critical analysis of our current black leadership. These conclusions may not be popular, but they are truthful, and as the Bible says You shall know the truth and the truth shall set you free. Why are most American blacks Democrats? An excellent question, given that: *History reveals the Republican Party has a far more impressive track record in Civil Rights legislation than the Democratic Party.*The Black Church, the most powerful institution in the African American community, has at times found itself forced to compromise its Christian values to support the Democrats' agenda.*Inner-city blacks, who have given their vote to the Democrats for the past forty years, are left wondering what that party has done to remedy the still-prevalent problems within their community.*President Richard Nixon, a Republican, started Affirmative Action; President Bill Clinton, a Democrat, ignored Affirmative Action.*The NAACP was founded and financed by three whites who opposed the Democrat's racist practices and the lynching blacks.*The Democratic Party has never offered an apology for their racist legislative practices or for their terrorist and lethal tactics - both initiated by members of their party and their Klan supporters. Rev. Wayne Perryman, author and community activist, delves deep intopolitics, race, and religion during the past 150 years and uncovers startling truths about the historic relationship between Blacks and Democrats. Blacks and whites, Christians and Muslims, Democrats and Republicans all should turn the page to understand the critical roles each has played in the lives of their African American sisters and brothers.

Democratic Myths

In his review of this book R. Lau attempts to "prove" that all Republicans are racists by misquoting Barry Goldwater's famous acceptance speech at the 1964 Republican Convention. Lau "quotes" Goldwater as saying that "Extremism in defense of SEGREGATION is no vice." Every sentient American knows tat what Goldwater actually said was this: "Extremism in defense of LIBERTY is no vice." Barry Goldwater was no racist. And neither is the Republican Party This dishonest attempt to portray Republicans as racists has been perpetrated by the Democratic Party for the past thirty years. Anyone who watched the performance of Democratic Senators like Teddy Kennedy in the Senate Judiciary Committee hearing on Judge Sam Alito appointment to the Supreme Court this week has witnessed the absurd and dishonest lengths to which they are willing to go to perpetuate that myth. What the Rev. Perryman points out in this book is that for over a hundred years from 1854 to 1964 the Republican Party was the sole champion of emancipation, of equal rights for blacks, of putting an end to racial segregation, and of anti lynching laws; while the Democrats precipitated and fought a civil war to preserve slavery, enacted and enforced the Jim Crow laws that created the segregated South, and invented and repeatedly used the Senate filibuster to block the enactment of anti lynching bills introduced by Republicans. It is true that by the 1960s the effort to end segregation and discrimination had become a bi-partisan effort. Democratic President Harry Truman took a courageous stand against segregation in 1948, splitting his party; and Lyndon Johnson introduced the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and the Voting Rights Act of 1965. But neither of these laws could have been enacted without Republican support. Republican Senators and Congressmen overwhelmingly voted in favor of these bills, while one third of the Democrats in both houses of Congress voted against them, and mounted a filibuster in the Senate to prevent their enactment -- a filibuster that was broken only with Republican votes. It is also a fact that the first crack in the wall of legal segregation came in 1954 with the Supreme Court decision in Brown v Board of Education outlawing segregation in the public schools. It was a unanimous decision supported by both the Republican and Democratic Justices; and the opinion of the Court was written by Republican Chief Justice Earl Warren. It is also a fact that Republican President Dwight Eisenhower was the first President since Republican President U.S. Grant to send federal troops to the South to enforce the rights of African Americans, by upholding court ordered desegregation of the Little Rock public schools. It was also a Republican, Richard Nixon, who established affirmative action as federal policy by issuing an Executive Order requiring that federal construction jobs be given to minority firms. And finally, Republican President George W. Bush has appointed more minorities

Excellent book

Wayne Perryman has written a great book full of facts not fiction. It has been done in a very scholarly manner and would make a great text book for a black history class. He looks at history through non-prejudiced eyes. This book is a must read for ALL AMERICANS. If you are honest and desire to know the truth you will find it in this book. Wayne looks back at what has happened for several decades to show the negative impact of the democratic party on the black people in our country. The freedom they have long sought for and think they have is not always what it seems to be. Wayne does not hold any punches, but in a very fair alalytical way tells the truth. I hope many are set free by reading this truth. I believe this is a must read.

ENLIGHTENED READER

Traditionally, Blacks have voted for the Democratic Party based on the assumption that it was the party that "looked out" for Blacks. While that may have been the truth at one time, it no longer exists and hasn't for many years. Mr. Perryman's book, Unfounded Loyalty, exposes, facts, figures, and incidences which prove that the Democratic Party has actually suppressed the Black race, and informs the reader of advantages gained via the Republican Party. This is done in an easy-to-read, nondogmatic style. I highly recommed this book.

Unfounded Loyalty: The Book that sets it all straight

A book for the ages. There have been many people whom have stood up and pointed out misdeeds, injustices, and false representation. Sometimes these people face tremendous trial and trouble, especially when they probe deep into the fibers of the tightly woven fabric of such a lukerative and powerful institution as the Democratic Party. Mr. Perryman as an author takes a very unique approach at exposing very disturbing truths deeply hidden in the history of the Democratic Party. This thought provoking book is going to stir up a lot of controversy and trouble, and put Mr. Wayne Perryman in the hot seat. And rightfully so, how dare a man bring forth the notion that the Democratic Party has been anything but good to African American people? Truth is truth, Mr. Perryman's accurate research brings out the hard hitting facts. Read this book, get informed, and decide where your loyalty should be. In order to understand the tendencies of an institution, you must understand its origination. My eyes are further opened, this is a MUST READ for every person of all nationalities and political background. History and knowledge know no color or political party. Get to the truth.

Learn about "The Rest of the Story"

Unfounded Loyalty is an eye opening look at the facts of black history and role that religion, in particular Christianity, plays in it. I read this book over the course of several days and liked it so much that I bought a copy (28) for all of my graduating seniors at the high school at which I teach. Since it is a school that is 58% African American and 90% students of color over all, I felt it important to challenge their critical thinking skills. They must know the "why" behind what they do and make real choices. I also dedicated a class period to the discussion of several passages from this book. It is a must read for every African American in this country.
