Good but all B & W

Nice book, as authentic as you can get, since the photos were taken at the time. All black & white, naturally, so not much help for picking colors to paint one's toy soldiers, however. Don Troiani's "Regiments and Uniforms of the Civil War" was more helpful in this regard. Note that the soft cover, $17 versions of Troiani's work (e.g. Don Troiani's Civil War Infantry) are just extracts of the larger, $50 hardcover, so you don't need to buy both.
PIONEERING WORK!

It is nice to see this book reprinted. Dr. Lord wrote this pioneering work decades ago, and today it still stands the test of time. It is a great place to learn more about Civil War uniforms, and while there are now much more detailed, specialized books on the subject, this is a great place to start.
