This book assesses the chemical composition of Vernonia amygdalina aqueous leaf extract by FTIR and identifies various functional groups linked with their biological activities. The leaves were collected from Joseph Sarwuan Tarka University and the University of Ibadan, Nigeria; after authentication, they were processed for extraction. It exhibited important functional groups, such as hydroxyl at 1021.29 cm⁻ , amine at 1408.93 cm⁻ , amide at 1558.02 cm⁻ , alkene at 1636.80 cm⁻ , alkyne at 2117.12 cm⁻ , and alcohol at 3287.51 cm⁻ , through FTIR analysis. It thus confirms that the extract contains various bioactive compounds, and its traditional uses could be recommended for further pharmaceutical and agricultural applications. Its future work concerns the isolation of individual compounds and their further bioactivity studies.
