"A wonderful story. . . .Siddons has returned to what she does best: gives us a book full of laughter and adventure that has enough soul to leave us with something to think about after we finish... This description may be from another edition of this product.
This is the second novel I have read by this author. I find her writing enthralling. Her tale of an aggrieved woman grips you and you must read on and on... I found myself engrossed in her characters as though I had met them myself. The story will also make you want to tour every inch of Martha's Vinyard.
VERY INTERESTING!

I am a great big fan of Anne Rivers Siddons books and love her styles of writing. I say styles,(plural), because each book of hers is never quite the same as the one before. I enjoyed the character of Molly and felt that Siddons wrote with much emotion as she described the changes in Molly's life, beginning with when her husband left her for another women. From there, Molly finds a new life on the island, and yet still faces challenges with her ailing father, and helping two lesbian ladies, (a new twist), through their troublesome life as their health deteriotates. A wonderful book to read!
Heartpleasing

This story touched my heart in a way that only another caretaker can. Women take care of people. It is our job without our knowing it. We do it from birth and are lost without it. Up Island touches us where we live, not for ourselves, but for others. I enjoyed it very much and now want to read all of her books. LAR

Anne Rivers Siddons novels are so well written better yet it is best to listen to her stories on Audio. I could drive around all day!!! I have read 3 of her novels and eagerly await to start another. It's as if you really get to know the characters and their surroundings. The words are beautifully written.
Two Thumbs Up for UP ISLAND
Published by Thriftbooks.com User , 26 years ago
Ms. Siddons has once again captured the true Southern spirit that transcends setting. Wherever her heroine travels, the Scarlett stength accompanies her. Molly in UP ISLAND spends most of the novel on Martha's Vineyard, but her persona displays the Atlanta sensitivity and reactions to both nature and people. Siddons has the ability to couple the story of a typical Southern woman's response to unfaithfulness and the empty nest syndrone with personal friendships, sexual passion, and parent/child relationships, blending all into a well-developed story line. Her varied characters in this novel offer reading appeal to a vast summer reading audience. Passages are often so poetic that they are worthy of reading aloud - or having printed on a t-shirt. This reader only wishes Ms. Siddons could create her characters more rapidly; I anxiously await the next novel.
