I loved "Upon A Midnight Clear." The story was different, which made it exciting, compelling and really pulled the reader into the heart of it from the very first page. Martin is a fantastic writer with an artistic and delightful writing style that keeps the reader emotionally engaged in the story. Callie Randolp, the main character, has become bitter with her parents and life when she is forced to give up her illegimate baby when she is a young student in college and dependent upon her folks for her keep. After graduation, she becomes a private-duty nurse so she can help others who are hurting and give them the kind of care she would have liked when she needed it. After the death of her elderly patient, Callie looks for a new assignment and hesitantly takes on the care of a young child the same age as the daughter she had to give up would have been. She wonders if she can deal with all the suppressed feelings she has but decides to take the case when she learns the little girl has been tramatized by the death of her mother. Callie can identify with the loss of a loved one and the devastating feelings that ensue. Callie soon learns that it's not just a little girl's lost feelings that she must face, but also the father who is still grieving the loss of his wife. Martin weaves a heart-warming story that makes the book so exciting that I couldn't put it down. Enjoy--the blessing that comes from reading it is truly a gift.

Simply wonderful! Gail writes a beautiful, heartfelt story that gently touches on some extremely genuine and delicate emotions in a way that constantly piqued my curiosity as I was transcended into the character's lives. I found the book almost impossible to put down until the last page when she surprised me again. I closed the cover feeling renewed and satisfied as the characters continued to live in my thoughts.

Change is exactly what Callie Randolph needs and David and Nattie Hamilton show her what love is all about. David's love shows Callie she can overcome the her past and it's Callie's love that helps make a needy child whole again. This tender love story is definitely a keeper -- one you'll pull from your shelf to read time and time again.
