Using the Caldera Desktop

The basis of Caldera is the Linux operating system, which offers multitasking, POSIX compatibility at the system call level, and full access to the features of modern Intel PC chips. To this, Caldera adds access to Novell Netware and a simple, attractive graphical interface.

In its appearance and operation, Caldera is a typical, modern, interface. It is very neatly tied to the UNIX-compatible system underneath. Directories are represented through a hierarchical set of windows. You can customize a toolbox to contain any desired icons for your favorite programs. A file manager is included.

With Caldera, you can call up applications from X Window System more easily and with less typing. And you can still reach behind the desktop to the full capabilities of Linux, which is increasingly popular as a development platform and Internet server.
