Just as Go-Go Girls of the Apocalypse was a "raucous thrill ride" (Publishers Weekly) and a playful stab at the post-apocalypse story, Vampire a Go-Go is a satirical take on the modern horror story--providing more laughs and unforgettable characters. Victor Gischler is a master of the class-act literary spoof--a unique niche in which he has few equals. He has tackled many popular genres with his wry wit: crime noir, the post-apocalyptic subgenre, and now the horror novel genre. Frequently compared to Kurt Vonnegut, Thomas Pynchon, and Quentin Tarantino, Gischler turns his attention to castles, astrologers, alchemists, ghosts, witches, gun-toting Jesuit priests, and werewolves with Vampire a Go-Go, a hilarious romp of spooky, gothic entertainment. Allen is a hapless grad student in trouble. He's about to flunk out of school and there is not much that can be done to salvage his GPA--except to redeem himself by accompanying an eccentric professor and his enigmatic wife on a research trip to a castle in Prague. But Allen doesn't know he'll end up in a hunt for a supernatural device that can restore the humanity to the undead. Narrated by a ghost whose spirit is chained to the mysterious castle, Vampire a Go-Go is full of twists and surprises that will have readers screaming--and laughing--for more.
I received an autographed copy of this book from Mr. Gischler recently at a convention and it was a blast to read. He kept the tempo up and the plot progressing. I couldn't pull myself away and read it all in one sitting. If you want an entertaining book that will give you a laugh while keeping you guessing about the ending, this is it. A+++

Allen Cabbot is a grad student at the fictional Gothic State University who just finished a semester in which he earned straight Cs. In a last-ditch effort to avoid getting kicked out of school, he accepts a position as a research assistant in Prague for a demanding and eccentric professor. His trip turns into a wild ride that brings him into contact with witches, wizards, zombies, a vampire, a werewolf, the ghost of a 16th century alchemist, and a team of priests who fight evil . . . with automatic weapons. VAMPIRE A GO-GO is a tremendously entertaining read. Victor Gischler populates the book with quirky characters that capture your attention from the get-go. Once I started it, I had a tough time putting this book down. If you like a good fantasy/horror/sci-fi romp, do yourself a favor and pick up a copy of VAMPIRE A GO-GO. You won't be disappointed.
enjoyable Prague summer

Gothic State University grad student blew off the semester when he met Brenda Cole. After she dumped him and he groveled but failed to win her back he finally moved on. His adviser Professor Carpenter and her 122 birds named Admiral Snodgrass say he can salvage his student status by accompanying notoriously known hard-ass Professor Evergreen and his wife on a research prject at a castle in Prague. Although his love is the Bronte sisters perhaps after Brenda's tattoos, Allen absolutely agrees. In the Czech republic, Allen finds nothing going right as the Battle Jesuits Society of Witches (and one vampire) attack their party. He also concludes that Evergreen seeks the legendary philosopher's stone that reanimate the dead Not sure where he fits in to everyone's plot except as the fall guy, Allen soon meets Cassandra, Amy the good witch with no power and Penny who says she will earn and own him before the summer is through. Lighthearted fun, VAMPIRE A GO-GO is an enjoyable Prague summer as Allen seems to run into one problem after another as if he is Job. Much of the story line is told by jovial spirited alchemist Edward Kelley or at least his ghost; who moans and groans over the Net's crappy picture of him. The characters are brilliantly developed and seem real (including Allen) so that readers will enjoy the most wonderful summer of Allen's life that is if he survives to the fall. Harriet Klausner
The Man Can Write

What can you say about a novel with a vampire, a werewolf, witches, warlocks, alchemists, and a squad of heavily armed Jesuit priests. The story goes back and forth between now and the sixteenth century where the narrator, a ghost, lived. Everyone is looking for the Philosopher's Stone which is not at all what people think it is. Though there is a light-hearted touch here, make no mistake, this is a serious novel worth taking a look at. If you don't already have it, get it. Now! Victor Gischler can write. I know no other way to say it!
Gischler rocks!

Folks, what can i say? I love Victor Gischler's books, he is an unbelievable novelist cause he could write fantastic crime novels but he is also a master in a sort of crossover genre that mixes, in a wonderful way, horror, fantasy, adventure, crime, action thriller, so he is THE ALCHEMIST of the american literature, definitely. In "Vampire a Go Go" he has created an amazing world populated with witches, alchemists, killer-priests, golems, werewolves and ghosts. He set the novel in Prague, Czech Republic. "Vampire a Go Go" has a fast-paced plot, is full of dark humor, the style is fresh, amusing and genial, the story is full of tricks, twists and surprises, and along with a clever plot, well-drawn characters make us want to continue reading the novel, so, at the end, i wanna say BRAVO to VICTOR GISCHLER. Today he is one of the greatest talents of the new wave of the american literature.
