A "best of" collection of creepy tales from Eisner award winner and legendary horror master Junji Ito. This striking collection presents the most remarkable short works of Junji Ito's career, featuring an adaptation of Rampo Edogawa's classic horror story "Human Chair" and fan favorite "The Enigma of Amigara Fault." With a deluxe presentation--including special color pages, and showcasing illustrations from his acclaimed long-form manga No Longer Human--each chilling tale invites readers to revel in a world of terror.
Not all the stories in this book was for me, the 1st one I found a bit disturbing, and not in a good way. I'm an odd duck, I like horror and I like gruesome but when gruesome meets horror, sometimes that's a turn off for me. I can take a lot of one or the other but maybe the mixture is what sends me over the edge into uneasiness, I don't know.
But the rest of the stories, and even the first one, were captivating. The mysteries of what happens next, while some actions were predictable, the results surprised me almost every time. I also like the personal story and seeing how Junji Ito saw himself now and as a child.
Buy my favorite story was The Human Chair by Edogawa Ranpo, 1 of 2 of his stories illustrated, but I also particularly liked Venus in the Blind Spot, I've known of manga about aliens but this story made me want to find others to see little grey men in manga. After all, anime eyes were built for aliens.
... Kidding kidding. But really if you think about it, it does make sense lol.
