This book provides a perfect introduction to the field of vhdl for synthesis. Very simple and it almost cover the main topics of the language in an efficient way. The book does not provide a detailed description of the language but the level of introduction is sufficient for anyone with little or no background in VHDL.

a good start for vhdl

Sometimes a mix-up between VHDL87 and VHDL93, very hard to figure out for a newcomer. The topics are good explained but on some examples one have to look up things explained later (a little bit confusing). Nevertheless, a very good emphasis on what is synthesizeable and what is not. The including CD isn't worth buying the book (just Accolade's demo version and some examples). I would recommend this book for beginners and for those who want to target real hardware with VHDL.

Good coverage of practical VHDL with lot's of examples. Relavant to both ASIC and FPGA design flows. Bit slanted to ASIC design.

This book is a great resource for anyone who wants to quickly learn how VHDL is used and what its capabilities are.Definitely a good way to get started and an investment worth making.
