Seventeen-year-old Violet is amazed when a storm brings the dashing Prince Richard to her impoverished family's farm. The two fall in love at first sight, but although Richard has given his heart to Violet, his parents will only let him marry a princess of their choosing, a lady of the highest nobility and sensitivity. Now on a quest to be reunited with her true love, Violet must rely on her wits--and a little help from an unexpected source--to compete with princesses, pass the king and queen's tests, and prove herself worthy of being Richard's bride.
What a delightful story! I loved Violet the main character. She was self-assured, clever, and determined, but also compassionate and humble.
Definitely a comfort read, it was very much a “love wins and good prevails” story. The book really highlights depth of character, compassion, and perseverance. A good book for kids to read.
I loved Violet’s friends (Genevieve is darling, Arianna is so cool) and Richard’s mom! Richard was also pretty interesting and a sweetie. As a love-at-first-sight romance, it’s done well.

This book is what got me into reading. I love that the story is close to the original but pulls you in with a more compelling writing style.
