Follow New York Times bestselling author Anne Bishop to a "stunningly original"( Kirkus Reviews ) world of magic and political unrest--where the only chance at peace requires a deadly price--in the third Novel of the Others. The Others freed the blood prophets to protect them from exploitation, but their actions had dire consequences. Now the fragile seers are in greater danger than ever before. In desperate need of answers, Simon Wolfgard, a shape-shifter leader among the Others, has no choice but to enlist blood prophet Meg Corbyn's help, regardless of the risks she faces by aiding him. Meg knows each slice of her blade tempts death. But Others and humans alike need answers, and her visions may be Simon's only hope of ending the conflict. For the shadows of war are deepening across the Atlantik, and the battle is threatening to break right on Meg and Simon's doorstep...
I think you can read this book without having read the first two, but why would you do that? The events in this book happen shortly after the events in book 2 following the same characters from the first two books (adding a couple more) and expanding even more about the part of the world that the book is set in and the creatures that live in there. I think in this book Meg, the main character, ends up being worse in more parts than I would like. She's bit whiny and petulant and sometimes comes off a little spoiled, but it almost works out for the best in terms of character development. And honestly, I really enjoy the other characters that surround her and they have just enough spotlight on them that I don't mind her at all. As an Urban fantasy, I really like the setting and the world that's slowly being built and expanded on. It's not a bad continuation and if you liked the first two books, you're gonna enjoy this one I think.
For the physical copy, I bought the hardcover (since I owned one hard cover I needed to get the whole series in hard cover). It came basically new although clearly used which is fine by me. It came with the cover slip and nothing was bent or ripped. Was very happy with my purchase.
