What is a volcano? Why does it erupt? Young readers accompany a real-life scientist who studies volcanoes and how they work. Colorful photographs accompany the simple text, which includes a question and answer on each spread. Children will enjoy reading on their own and learning about the tools scientists use, and how they can tell when a volcano might erupt. Also included is a hands-on activity. This is a great book to support early reading and scientific inquiry.
I teach elementary school, and I just love this book for 1st or 2nd graders. It is written perfectly for the age group, yet will not bore the adult who reads with or to the child. There is a lot of excellent information here, and the photos and illustrations are beautiful. I particularly like the project at the end of the book, so students can supplement their reading with some "hands-on" learning. I *highly* recommend this book!
