This is a romance that got off to a quick start and fizzled, with lots of help from the supporting characters, Damon Grivas' own father (Audrey's godfather) and his mother. Audrey fell in love with Damon as he did with her but it took all of the 186 pages to bring about the match Matthew Gregory had in mind for his son. Damon was so well versed in love making that he didn't doubt that this young inexperienced girl would surcome to his love making and he was right, except his mother and father's meddling in his affairs almost cost Audrey and Damon a happy ending. Audrey's friend Cheryl put her two cents in also. From the back of the book: 'The conversation Audrey had overheard still rang in her ears. Her golden dream dissolved like mist. What a fool she had been! The thought of how easily she had been deceived with sweet words and tender glances made her wince. Damon had agreed to marry her only because it had been made worth his while. Well, Audrey decided grimly, the welcome he was expecting on his return was not the one he was going to get!'
