Book Overview

A gargoyle finds himself caught between a rock and a hard place in this Xanth adventure that "should delight Anthony's many fans" (Publishers Weekly).

As a gargoyle, Gary Gar has one job in Xanth: to protect the Swan Knee River from the pollution flowing in from Mundania. But more dirt plus less rain will crack any gargoyle's stony composure.

So Gary does what any good Xanthian would do: He seeks the help of the Good Magician. But payment for his service is high. Gary must find a philter for the water, while taking on human form to tutor a wild human child, with help from the surly Sorceress Iris, and-even though time is of the essence-taking Hiatus, a known troublemaker, along for the ride.

It won't be easy, especially when they're all transported back to the dawn of time. And if they can't figure out what's going on in the past, there may be no future for Xanth-come hell or high water . . .

"Ephemeral amusement for pun-struck Xanthonauts." -Kirkus Reviews

Another terrific Xanth novel.

This book was one of the best that I've ever read... and I've read a ton of books. In this book, Gary Gargoyle encounters a pollution that he can't purify, so he goes to the good magician for help. Not surprisingly, the good magician tells him what he needs then sends Gary off to do the job he must do for repayment of the good magician's service of helping him. He gets a hard job though... tutoring (Remember Grundy and Rapunzel's daughter?) Surprise!

Full of Magic, Puns and Unique Characters

This book started out as easy reading - comprehensible and not much to the story line. As the book progressed, however, the plot became more detailed as more and more characters were introduced. I would recommend the reader to definitely have a strong imagination to picture the intricate objects explained in this book, as well as the scenery. I found this book to be most enjoyable; I read it in only three days. I definitely look forward to reading more Xanth books, this being my first.

i love anthony's xanth series!!!!

this is definitely one of the best xanth novels yet. i have been collecting his works and they are fabulous. i especially like all the cute, sexy things that the characters say and the author's approach to sex and things that relate to it. wonderful book!!!!

I love Piers Anthony!!

I think that Piers Anthony is the best writer of all times. When I started reading Geis of the gargoyle I left it at a friends house and she refused to return it untill she was finished with it but I think all the books were great!!

"It was the best book I read in years"

I think that Piers Anthony is a great writer. When my friend let me read the book I just had to start collecting. So the next day I went out and bought as many Piers Anthony books as I could afford. Now I am a devoted reader and will keep collecting as long as they're out there.
