Each year more than 4 million hunters pursue waterfowl species in North America alone. This basic outdoor reference for hunters covers bird identification and actual hunting strategies for 27 major species of puddle ducks, diving ducks, and geese. The author also discusses several different styles of hunting waterfowl-from the water and from land-plus different kinds of blinds and their relative usefulness in various habitats. How-to information on calling and decoying is covered in detail, including decoy placement strategies and all the popular patterns. Both US and Canadian species and hunting opportunities are discussed. Includes index.
Well formatted, clearly illustrated. The time, effort, license fees, volunteer work restoring habitat, all pay off at the table. Yumm. I don't know where the prior reviewer is coming from with the 'blood sport'comment, but its a fact-- the meat in the supermarket doesn't come into the world at 40 degrees, skinless, in a styro tray plastic wrapped. It is butchered. If she's a veg, its a fact-- all those whole grain plants are killed off after the harvest. The history of life on earth is one of living and dying. Humans and their habits are not less natural than, say, a duck 'executing' a dragonfly larvae unlucky enough to get a bill he didn't expect. But God suffers the ignorant, at least for a while.
