A groundbreaking gem

This book is written incredibly well. I'm amazed at how Dirk can speak to a specialist and to the general public. The book is very cleverly written with just the right mix of hard science and fascinating and delightfully enjoyable reading. Dirk offers a plethora of information about the current state of the astrobiological quest, coming through with the scientific details but making them accessible to non-specialists. And this is so because Dirk is a top planetary scientist who also happens to be a gifted writer and communicator. Also, this is the very first book dealing with the issue of life in the Universe that seriously considers the possibility that we have already found life in other planets, and this awesome conclusion is based on a solid revisit of the scientific evidence gathered during the last decades of spatial exploration. I highly recommend this book to any person that is interested in the planetary exploration and the search for life elsewhere. This is an excellent book in every way imaginable.

And what this entails about the possibilities of life outside the Solar System? in the final chapters the Authors give some interesting speculations on this topic. A book to read, highly recommended!
