This book is a compendium of true tales focused on the lives of women who lived in North Kingstown across the centuries. It is part of a series of books that try to tell a more complete story of the history of the community by including the contributions, trials, and tribulations of those who called this place home who were not wealthy white men. This unfortunate situation, local history recorded in the Victorian and early 20th century periods by wealthy white men featuring primarily folks of that ilk, is pervasive across New England and leads to a very slanted story of how these communities came to be the places that they are in the 21st century. The history of a place that includes all the people who contributed to it is a richer, fuller and more interesting tale and that is what this series of books is trying to accomplish.
