Bewildering disjointed

I usually find this author readable, although I am not a huge fan.
This book, however, I found frustrating, disjointed and ultimately unreadable. I can count on one hand the number of books I have failed to finish but here is one of them.
Perhaps I did not like any of the characters, or did not know who (or what) the story was about, but it goes directly to the donation bin.
