A wonderful, well-written book that holds your interest until the end. As you read each chapter, you become more and more attached to each character. Very difficult to put down until finished to see the outcome, but at the same time, you don't want the story to end. A warm, moving story unfolded brilliantly by the author. The cover is appealing - invites one to get comfortable and escape into another time!

This is a book you will read and reread and hope for a sequel. With it based on a blend of fiction and factual memories, the author found a way to touch my heart with every page. I could not put it down and was actually sorry when I finished reading it after becoming so involved with each character. I wanted to know more about each of their lives. I laughed and I cried many times while reading this wonderful novel. I will definitely watch for anything by this author going forward.
Warm tale of sad childhoods

Based on true events, fictionalized, the author leads the reader through the life-interrupting events of a family of children. Complex characters, at times a heart-breaking, at times a heart-warming story, once started, I couldn't put it down. Perfect for book clubs, cruises, beaches, or a warm evening by the fire.
Fascinating Tale of Strong Family Bonds

This is one story that doesn't easily fall into one of "Hollywood's 7 Scripts." I enjoyed it because the narrative unfolded as the children grew up. Their different personalities were captured and described through realistic events and actions. While my rational side enjoyed the careful unveiling of the children's personalities, my emotional side enjoyed the descriptions of the picturesque settings and events. This book made me want to move to a small town in the Applacian mountains! I recommend the book as a vacation/escape trip book. While this review focuses on the course of the story, the climax is really impressive...keep your tissues handy!
