A comforting story about one brave little girl. "Vera was sick. She had spots all over her body, even between her toes and inside her ears. The doctor said she must stay in bed." Vera is sick. Mother... This description may be from another edition of this product.
I grabbed this book at random at the library, but it has become the favorite at our house. My 22 month old daughter asks me to read it to her multiple times a day to where we now both have it memorized. I'm not sure what I'll do when our 5 renewals run out! She will quote lines from it during the day or she and my 3 year old son will say lines together and laugh. Neither has ever had such an illness and yet they love Vera. This is really a great book.
Best of the "Vera" books

There are lots of "Vera" books, but by far this is the best. For me it's because I don't have to do any editing when I read it. A few of the Roseberry books have some issues with language that I don't necessarily want to introduce to my kids (other kids saying mean things to Vera, not being nice, etc) so this book is one that I can buy over and over again to give as gifts to my neices and nephews, and for birthday party gifts. This book is about Vera getting the chicken pox and how her family takes care of her and she eventually gets well. I loved the part where her mother got down the "kitty", the bed pillow that only comes down from the closet shelf when you are sick, and it smells like grandma. Very nice imageery. The author writes and illustrates, which sometimes can be quirky but the kids LOVE the illustrations, really keeps them captivated. If you do buy her others, just leave out the mean stuff, it's just not necessary. My kids love Vera, who doesn't?

We first borrowed this book from our local library and my two and a half year old son loved it so much we had to renew it three times! He just loves having it read over and over. He talks about Vera all the time as if she is a part of our family.
Wonderfully illustrated!

Rosenberry has done a marvelous job of depicting a sick child! In fact, the pictures remind me of my nieces when they are sick!
