David Kaye goes back to the Baltimore of the late 1960s to tell the story of recently divorced Jack Kapinski who moves into a dilapidated downtown apartment to start a new life and to possibly fulfil his ambition to be an artist. He shares the old building with a small colony of hippies who gradually draw Jack into their world of loud music, psychedelic drugs, and free love. As he struggles to balance the obligations of his day job with the temptations of his new surroundings, he begins to appreciate that he is living in a time of change and new possibilities.
