Nalyx has dedicated his life to defending the human world from the hoards of demons attempting to cross the Gate of Chalandros. But the journey is perilous, with an army of warriors poised to kill anyone who dares to set foot on human territory.

Against all odds, Gantalla survives the crossing, only to discover that life disguised as a human, in the bustling city of Minia, is far more confusing than she could have imagined. After a series of missteps, she inadvertently finds herself nursing a warrior who was badly injured in the latest battle. Nalyx presents a confounding mix of charm and vulnerability, but Gantalla can't let herself get too comfortable with him. After all, if he ever found out what she really was, he wouldn't hesitate to kill her...

This book can be read as a standalone, though many of these characters will show up in minor roles later in the series as well.
