Yet many of us are living the lives and dreams imposed upon us by our family, friends and society. Once we understand the fears, frustrations and loyalties that sabotage our dreams and best efforts at personal growth, we can free ourselves from doubt and defeat and find out what we really want to do with our lives. Who You Were Meant to Be explains how to use our inner guidance to find our most personal and energizing life purpose. Writing in a friendly, active style, psychologist Lindsay Gibson shows us how to get free of the misguided guilt and loyalty that confuse loving others with sacrificing oneself. We can undo self-defeating ideas and claim our right to happiness and autonomy in our life choices. Thanks to the author's clinical background, this book goes deep enough to address feelings of helplessness, hopelessness, and the common fears that can bring self-actualization to a standstill. Dr. Gibson offers a unique blend of inspiration and pragmatic advice to people who have been reluctant to put themselves first in their own lives. Who You Were Meant to Be provides a practical road map out of old habits and shows how to forge a new path on which each of us can discover or recover our true purposes in life and become the people we want to be.
Who You Were Meant To Be: A Guide To Finding Or Recovering Your Life's Purpose provides the reader with the tools for identifying and pursuing his or her calling in life. Psychotherapist Lindsay Gibson explains that it is understanding those of our fears, frustrations, and loyalties that sabotage and undermine our dreams and limit the realization of our full potential. Highly recommended for self-help, self-improvement, and self-realization reading lists, Who You Were Meant To Be is presented in two major sections: How Our Legacies Hold Us Back and Developing Your Adult Destiny Despite Present Obstacles, as well as providing the reader with two informative appendices, notes, bibliography, and an index.

Best Book Possible for Your Life. Without question, I highly recommend this masterful work as the one book you should buy. Dr. Lindsay Gibson has written a proactive, realistic book which will help everyone - regardless of where you are in life. Well organized, easy to read, and full of useful real world examples, this book identifies ways to identify your inner desires and inner dreams, understand what holds you back, and how to fulfill the very best of yourself Dr. Gibson makes no false promises or suggests things which might never be realized. Her book offers choices for your own evaluation and consideration in order to get the best out of yourself. At times while reading the book, I found myself saying this is exactly how I felt about a given situation and how I struggled to find an answer to some of life's issues. Dr. Gibson has anticipated the questions, provided answers rich in thought, and demonstrated her strong belief in human potential. Her book provides the insight and opportunity to be that person each of us truly wants to be.My recommendation is simply this - BUY THIS BOOK, make the investment in yourself (or give it to someone you know who needs it). You will not disappointed.

Dr. Gibson has written a book that appeals to all ages and genders. It is a well written book that makes the reader look at themselves and their hopes and dreams. It is a book that you can't put down, yet when your finished, you pick up to read certain chapters over again. Her beautiful style of writing and her specific suggestions for a more joyful life make this book a find. Even my teenagers were able to join in on discussions we had about the book, and their aspirations. Dr Gibson's book is about how to find out what you really accompish in life, instead of living the life others want you to live. My favoite thought from the book is :"As long as the voice within appears to be telling us something that we don't want to hear, it may be an indication of how far we have separated ourselves from knowing what we truly want".
Excellent Information

Lindsay Gibson makes many interesting points in her book, WHO YOU WERE MEANT TO BE. Among them is an identification of transit as a time when people engage in self - discivery. I think that this is correct. Most people are always doing something formal, during the rest of their waking time. In transit, alone in a silent automobile, one can think. This book is an excellent resource for almost everyone. So many people have never taken seriously the following of their dreams. Dr. Gibson not only makes an excellent case for that; she provides many suggestions that are likely to be helpful in the pursuing of one's dreams. I don't think that everyone needs to be stationary, and I think that most people are much less happy than they could be. I advise the reading of this book to everyone who has a dream that they have yet to pursue (unless this dream includes harming me). Joshua L. Freeman

Dr. Gibson has written a book in which she offers herself as a skilled guide to accompany us on a journey to a more gratifying life. Hers is a realistic perspective offering neither that things will be perfect, easy or completely changed. Instead she focuses on the importance of even small additions of meaning and purpose in your life. She actually works to teach how one can identify improtant needs, desires and tendencies toward joy and fullfillment that have been overlooked in the course of getting through life. This is not like other self-help books that offer promises of an ideal love, a thin body, riches, greater IQ or a dream future. This is a book that says all of us can be a little more fo the person we would truly like to be but may have left behind in the process of meetings life's demands. The style of writing in this book is a pleasure to read. Dr. Gibson uses metaphors and visual imagery beautifully and liberally. She make the book come alive with examples from her own life and the lives of her patients. She anticipates questions and problems you may have and seems to anwer them before you've articulated them to yourself. It is obvious that she believes in the development of human potential in all people as a valuable and achievable goal. This is a highly readable, optimistic book in which a seasoned psychologist is sharing her many years of experience and wisdom with us very generously. Don't look a gift horse in the mouth read this book and let your "Self" prosper.
