Fog settles in and a leisurely drive turns frightening for mystery writer Annie Kirk when the car she's in is forced off the road. She and the driver, Brendan Marshall, are unhurt, but they're also unprepared for the bizarre events that take place as a result of this incident. Strange happenings begin almost immediately when Annie thinks she sees someone or something in the shape-shifting mist, but a search turns up nothing. Several weeks later Annie is invited to speak to a book discussion group and to participate in a murder mystery game put together by one of the members. As the game unfolds, Annie notices uncanny parallels to the day she and Brendan were forced off the road; it seems that someone else was present at the time. Seeing someone hadn't been her imagination. It also becomes evident that one of the players isn't playing at murder, but is deadly serious. It's up to Annie to discover why and whodunit.
This is a "feel good" mystery with suspenseful settings: the old mansion with "lights out" during the storm --all the classic elements of a traditional mystery. Hard to put down at times. The wife and I both enjoyed it. The title is a bit deceiving: this is not a mind-bending story with intricate clues, but more of a light suspense mystery. Great to relax with.
