William Dick's South Sea Voyage: From Jamaica unto the Province of Darien, and South-Seas (Tomes Maritime): The Dampier Collection, Volume 13

William Dick sailed from Jamaica with Captain Sharp, made his way across the Isthmus of Darien and engaged in robberies and assaults on Spanish towns and villages up and down the West coast of the Americas. Dick sailed on these voyages with such famous fellows as William Dampier, Basil Ringrose, Lionel Wafer, and Captain Bartholomew Sharp. When Dick returned to London, he was tried for piracy, murder and mayhem on the high seas. He was acquitted. An account of his piratical adventures was published in the second edition of Bucaniers of America in May 1684. Due to the candid nature of Dick's account, it was credited to 'WD'. Did Dick only used his initials in order to remain anonymous avoid a second trail for piracy? Probably, because this account is nothing less than a confession to robbery, assault and murder.
