Is Wonder's racing career over before it begins? Against all odds, Ashleigh Griffen's favorite racehorse, Wonder, has come through training with flying colors. Now Ashleigh and Wonder's trainer, Charlie, are putting everything they have into getting Wonder ready for the biggest race of her career: The Kentucky Derby. Then disaster strikes. Brad Townsend, the son of Wonder's owner, insists on working Wonder one icy winter day. As Ashleigh and Charlie watch in horror, Brad gallops Wonder too fast, and the filly stumbles on the frozen track, badly injuring her shoulder. After two years of hard work, have Wonder's chances been ruined in a split second? Read Thoroughbred and experience the love and friendship between a determined girl and a very special filly.
I just finished reading this again for the first time in maybe a decade and I have to say it's still one of my favorite TB books. I don't know what it is about the really old ones...it's like being on personal holiday while reading them. Anyway, on the second time around, as an older person who notices these things, I did stumble across some mistakes...like the Swayle Stakes instead of Swale, and the fact that the paddock walkway for Churchill Downs isn't grass. Plus, as the book went along it started to go really fast and then I actually started to ask myself why they couldn't have slowed down for Wonder's two-year-old season and then had a separate book for Wonder's Triple Crown. It seemed like a rushed road to the Derby to me. But, the Brad and Caroline stuff is gold. I always loved that little plot twist. And the descriptions for the Kentucky Derby were right on target. All and all, this is one of my favorite TB books and is deserving of five stars.
This is an excellent choice for horse lovers!

The story is very realistic, with Wonder getting hurt, and it actually describes treatment of the injury, which was very educational. Besides that, it is a book that is filled with the excitement of racing and especially the Triple Crown. I would recommend it for anyone who is even slightly interested in horses or racing.
Just Great!

This book is just great! If you're smart, you'd take my advise and buy this book! It's one of the best books in the series. Trust me, once you read this book.....you'll want to read all the other books too!

Wonder is finally racing. This is one filly that will warm your heart and hook you to racing. the ealier books about Wonder,Pride, and Fleet Goddess are the best and the Star ones are good. All the thoroughbred books are good but the ones about the horses i mentioned are the best. I don't like how people critize other books even if they are nbot as good as some of the others. And i son't think that Christina is stuck up she kinda was in some of the earlier books about her but in Wonder's Legacy and beyond seh gets better and more like Melanie (readand find out how) so atop critazing and reread them and see idf your judgments are wrong.
Absolutely WONDERful!
