This perennial best-seller is written for Advanced Grammar and Composition or Advanced Composition and Conversation classes. Grammatical explanations are given in English to facilitate comprehension. Numerous excercises help improve oral, written, and vocabulary skills. The contextualized exercises focus on contemporary situations students are likely to encounter. With updated literary and cultural readings, Repase y Escriba includes an oral exchange, to make the text more useful when stressing conversation. New sections provide hints on the art of writing and rules for punctuation and grammar.
This is as good a book of its type as one could hope to find. Each chapter has a literary excerpt of some interest with sensible notes and useful questions designed for class room use. There is always plenty of useful vocabulary and then a fairly thorough look at two or through areas of usage of a grammatical nature with ensuing thoughtfully constructed writing exercises. The book is very sound from a pedagogic point of view -based evidently on years of teaching experience. I have looked at many books but this one, for example, satisfactorily explains the difference in usage between ser and estar much better than any other. It's a treasure trove for the advanced learner of Spanish.
The best language book I've ever read

I used this text in Mexico for the highest levels taught at the Centro Mexicano Internacional in Morelia, Michoacán. I speak French (five years) and a little German, have taken high school Latin and college-level Greek. I have had LOTS of delightful experiences with languages, including trying to speak Japanese in Japan! This book is, in my opinion, the best, most comprehensive and best-organized language text I've ever used. It's not for dabblers, however. To this serious student, it was like a long, long drink of cool water to a thirsty man: constantly delicious and satisfying. I can't recommend it highly enough. Según mi maestra favorita, ¡una Mexicana! fue el mejor también, nuestro "libro favorito."
A wonderful book to follow grammar classes

This excellent textbook brought Spanish "home" for me -- it seemed to link together all the Spanish I'd learned in the past. I highly recommend it!
I liked it but a lot of people I know didn't.

I found the book very helpful. It contains many sayings and 'modismos', how to write a letter in Spanish, and a lot of vocabulary. But my professor wasn't very impressed with it at all, and most of my friends weren't either. I thought the only negative points were a few mistakes in the text and the ridiculous price.
A decent book
