This is a great book. I am using the knowledge gleaned from this book to manage windows for a product platform using Java to talk directly to the XServer via the protocol. I knew almost nothing about X but had great deal of experience with other UI Toolkits. Within a few months I had a deeper and more satisfying understanding of X and its capabilities. Not for the faint of heart, but perfect for the inquisitive programmer...
