Writings that touch the pure-flaming heart of God ... from the men and women who walked with Him through the ages ... guiding into a deeper friendship with the "Father of Lights."Can I trust God in every circumstance? Can I rely on His promises--of protection, security, safety, provision, comfort--when I most need them? Is God always there for me? So many struggle to find confidence in God. Amy Carmichael stepped faithfully into the darkness surrounding her, and found the greatest "refuge" of all--the sheltering love of God, who is with us in all things. When Amy Carmichael (1867-1951) arrived in India, she had no idea the dangerous work ahead--to save young girls from cult prostitution in Hindu temples. Nor could she imagine the times of material need, physical danger, pain and debilitating illness, disappointment and attack by friends. From this crucible, she writes of her uplifting times with God--who calls us all to find safety in Him, to live honestly before Him, and to receive peace as we live in His presence.
This is a great tool in sharing with others how perseverence in Christ and sharing with others makes all the difference in a fallen world. May our hearts be ignited with the burning of the Spirit that Amy experienced.

This little book is wonderful. I own many books by and about Amy Carmichael. Amy's writings are always encouraging, and her insights inspire me to strive for what she had--a PERSONAL and CLOSE relationship with God. I recommend this book to anyone who wants a little something extra added to their devotional time; you can't go wrong with this one.
a good devotional, especially if you are familiar with Amy Carmichael

The editor of this little book took 40 excerpts from the various books and writings of Amy Carmichael. At the end of each excerpt, the editor writes his own short prayer that goes along with the theme. These were meaningful daily devotionals for 40 days. They will probably mean more if you are familiar with the life of Amy Carmichael. (She was a missionary to India in the early 1900's.) For instance, some of the devotionals on suffering will certainly mean more to you if you are familiar with the suffering Amy went through in the final years of her life. Amy has "been there" and can speak from first hand experience... I'd also recommend the biography of Amy called "A Chance to Die : The Life and Legacy of Amy Carmichael".
You Are My Hiding Place

My mom gave me this book when I was in early high school. It spoke to me then as a young Christian, and it speaks to me now more than 15 years later. I go back to it every once in a while. It both challenges me and comforts me. I highly recommend this book. There are even small prayers at the end of each section that you can either pray yourself or help you begin your own prayer. I also spend time reading the verses surrounding the beginning verse of each chapter.

A friend of mine let me borrow this book. God spoke to me so much through it. I've never read anything other than the bible that was so real. She challenged me. This is a 40 day devotional, but sometimes I read 2 or 3 in one day. I cannot say enough about how great this book is. I highly recommend it!
