Beginners of all ages will enjoy learning to play tinwhistle with the step-by-step method found in this book. Familiar folk melodies abound in this comprehensive collection of easy-to-play literature.... This description may be from another edition of this product.
I am brand new to tinwhistle. I do play slack key guitar and ukulele but those are far removed from this instrument. After looking at a number of introductory whistle books I chose this one. The most important reason for this choice over the others was the fact that I knew many of the examples in this book. All of the other books used Irish music examples, which for me as an absolute beginner in this music put me at a disadvantage as to how the tunes actually sounded. Much of the music in this book is familiar to me. Many of Mel Bay's books do this and it is an advantage for many newcomers to a particular genre.
Good book but not for the beginer...

First, let me say this is a very good book, plenty of popular tunes, etc. However this book is for the person who can read music already. I have no musical talent (or training at all), I have found, though, that I can play the tin whistle if I have the tablature in front of me, by that I mean the diagram where it shows you which holes to cover as you go. This book does not give any finger charts or tablature for the songs, it does show tablature to teach individual notes, etc. So, if you can read music, this is a great book!
