This is an excellent way for non lawyers to get easy answers to many common questions. It is set up in a question and answer format, with categories such as hiring a lawyer, firing a lawyer, the duties the lawyer has to you as the client during the representation and what you can do if the relationship goes south. As a lawyer myself, I find it to be an excellent quick reference guide to many basic issues.

That's what you get when "listening" to Fox and Martyn. Even when we've got serious legal concerns, there's room for a sense of humor and there's cause for hope: both can be found in abundance in this really-readable little book. The authors know well the foibles of the professionals they write about, and their frankness is refreshing. They're also top-ranked ethicists who are as good at talking to courts and law professors as they are talking to their nonlawyer readers. You may win or lose your case; you've got a guaranteed win just in reading this book, however.
Great Guide For Non-Lawyers

This book is a terrific guide for non-lawyers, offering practical information about the ethical obligations of lawyers. It is written in a question and answer format, freely interjecting humor throughout its coverage of a broad range of key areas. It begins with the basics of the client-lawyer relationship, lays out what to expect - and not expect - from a lawyer, and provides advice about "gaining even when you lose." A glossary of legal terms makes it even more user-friendly. This book is a great read for users of legal services and lawyers too.
