In this work I am not attempting to give an indepth analysis of the Whitechapel killings, there are many experts far more knowledgeable on the subject than myself, who have produced excellent historical works detailing facts and joining the pieces of this puzzle in an attempt to discover the identity of Jack the Ripper. What I have done is reproduce, in chronological order, news articles from three leading London newspapers, each of which thoroughly covered the investigations of the slayings from its particular political and social point of view. Because of some obscurities in the text due to the evolution of the English language over the last century and a quarter, I have added explanatory footnotes identifying people and defining slang words, phrases and technical terms that are no longer commonly used. For this purpose I have consulted various Victorian Era dictionaries, histories, newspapers, magazines, encyclopaedias, government sources and works of literature. I have also utilized modern sources concentrating on the Whitechapel killings and Victorian society in general.
